Pilots in commercial air traffic shall undergo aero-medical assessment to exclude that the person has a physical or mental illness which could lead to inability to perform assigned safety duties and obligations.
Pilots must undergo a check-up before the start of the service and thereafter according to the following periodicity:
- Under 40 years of age – once a year.
- 40-59 years of age – every six months for pilots in commercial flights with passengers.
- 40-59 years – once a year for pilots on other commercial flights.
- 60 years and over – every six months.
How it works
- Include the most recently issued medical certificate
Once you have ordered the service, your employee will be booked for a health check-up. The time is communicated in an email to your employee and to you as the orderer. Prior to the medical examination, it is important that the employee bring the most recently issued medical certificate in order for us to be able to make the right assessment. In case of visual impairment, a prescription for glasses should also be included. - Physical
The medical examination includes: ECG (according to statutory periodicity), audiometry (according to statutory periodicity), vision (according to statutory periodicity), sense of colour, sampling, blood pressure, height and weight. - Issued certificate
Following the check-up, a medical certificate is issued for air traffic controllers by EMPIC.
First-time certificates of future pilots
First-time check-up of future pilots in commercial air traffic can only be carried out by the Swedish Transport Agency Aeromedical Center (AeMC) located in Stockholm and Malmö.
